I learned how to mountain bike in my 20’s. I’ll never forget the day I bought my hard tail Giant almost two decades ago. I headed to Albion Hills, practically my backyard at the time. I was instantly hooked and hit the trails every moment I had. After I had kids my cycling went to the wayside for a number of years but when I turned 40 I decided it was time to bring the ol’ girl out again.
By this time I had moved to Collingwood and was looking for trails close to home. Little did I know there was a biking gem just down the street. This time I opted to update my bike after being told riding something made in this decade was essential. I bought my Scott full suspension at Little Ed’s (and yes it is also orange). What a game changer! Words cannot describe the incredible trails that are at our doorstep.
Pretty River Provincial park offers a series of trails called 3 stage, Highlands Nordic and Highlands Golf Course has an amazing system as well as Kolapore. Riding these trails is like a form of meditation for me, gliding over the roots and rocks in amongst the beautiful trees. A great sport for cardio and getting outside.
We have an amazing organization called CORC! Become a member and ride their staked out routes every other week. The membership also grants you access to Duntroon Highlands and introduces you to new trails all throughout Collingwood and the Blue Mountains. They cater to every age group with easy to more difficult trails.
We also have an amazing program called RAD Adventures. They offer amazing camps in the spring, summer and fall teaching kids of all levels how to ride. They also have 1 on 1 lessons for the older adult who would like to give it a go.
Mountain biking is a great activity for the whole family. Hope to see you on the trails!!
